Always Making History

Always Making History

You’ll be holding a candle down the darkest of halls
Out of the coldest of weather you’ll light up the walls
But they make you sit on your grey chair, feel the dust in your pores
Take your ticket and stare as the numbers tick closer to yours
So you open a window as the roundabout spins
you’re watching a race round the clock-face that no-one can win
And you see theres a place there for somebody like you
It’s drawing you near
It’s silence you fear
Your voice goes unheard
But you’ll say the words you’ve been longing to hear

Wherever you are you’re always making history
you’re never too far away from who you want to be
And you can try to ignore but it’s way overdue, every day theres a story you’re starting anew, you’ll never be through you’re always making history

You’ll find no conclusion you’ll be a draught through the door
You know you can win you can lose on the hand that you draw
As the dealers are dealing they’ll be stealing your blind
While you’re watching the clock on the stairwell you wonder if you’ll ever wind
They will hand you a future, as they wear out your name
Tell you to wrap it around you, as if to cover your shame
They’ll be watching you shivering under their icy stare
You’re wearing it wrong
You’ll never belong
They won’t want to know
That under the snow you were there all along

When you feel like you came here to lose you’re always making history
When you can’t buy the news you’re writing something real for free
And you can try to ignore but it’s way overdue, every day theres a story you’re starting anew, you’ll never be through you’re always making history
