Flying Home

Flying Home

They chase me here they chase me there
They hover through the filthy air
They follow me they’re never far behind
They take their fill they want some more
Their doubts will leave me longing for
A warm embrace to make them up and fly
They’re frightened when my friends come by
They’re waiting on the washing line outside
They wait to pick the bones

But I know the shadows looming in the grey will soon by flying home

They chased him night, they chased him day
They chased him when he lost his way
They flocked to form a cross he could adore
They chased him when he lost his mind
His daughters fought so hard to find me
sleeping like a snake outside their door
He saw the fruit but seeds he’d sown
Would draw those birds to circle round his home
To haunt them as they grew
But they knew the shadows looming in the grey would soon be flying home

Flying home through my window through the rain
Flying home until only blue remains

I chased her here, I chased her there
I saw right through her frozen stare
I saw her smiling in the morning light
Beauty must reflect the sky, the inky threads that lined her eyes
Went twisting into knots that bind the night
She always let them tie her tongue it took so many tears to make them run

To stain our goodbye clothes
But she knows the shadows looming in the grey, will soon be flying home

Anytime you feel too far away, you know you’re not alone

Flying home through my window through the rain
Flying home until only blue remains
