Alt TextBEN BARRITT Sundial EP – Jackalope Recordings – 2013
Recorded in Urchin Studio, and mastered at Air. The first release with my name on it- featuring many of my greatest friends and colleagues in London. Four songs with a sound that blends Folk, Rock and Jazz but keeps the melody at it’s centre. Well I hope so anyway, that was the plan.

RELEASES AS A SIDEMAN

a0511498014_7FINI BEARMAN Feel Deeply EP – 2014
Fini is one of the greatest singers of the London scene with many exciting projects going on. Five intimate, personal songs sung with effortless freedom and virtuosity. Duos captured on a single microphone in a Neukoelln loft, I got the 7-string out and we played it the old fashioned way.

Songs-from-the-Deep-Front MISHKA ADAMS Songs From The Deep – 2014
Recorded in Manila in two days. It’s just Mish and me with acoustics playing mostly whole takes with Angee Rozul on the desk. What a collection of songs! Mishka’s first album of all originals and the rawest recording of her beautiful, powerful voice.

JIM KROFT Lunatic Lullabies Virgin/EMI - 2013 JIM KROFT Lunatic Lullabies Virgin/EMI – 2013
I first played with Jim when I was 19, recruited into our band ‘Creel Commission’. We went our separate ways, but 5 years later Jim called me to see if I was up for getting involved on a solo album. By the 3rd album he was signed to EMI and we were touring around Europe. Stay tuned for album no. 4!

Kenny Wheeler, Norma Winstone and the London Vocal Project Mirrors Edition - 2013KENNY WHEELER, NORMA WINSTONE AND THE LONDON VOCAL PROJECT Mirrors – 2013

I’ve been singing with Pete Churchill and the LVP, a super-versatile vocal group, and been a fan of Kenny Wheeler for many years. Pete and the choir have been a huge part of my musical life and learning. We were so honoured to have been able to sing Kenny Wheeler’s hauntingly beautiful settings of english poetry on record. This music is unbelievably dark, but it’s some of my favourite music ever written by anybody

ATAR SHAFIGHIAN The Rise and Fall of Danny Chevron Sus Music - 2013 ATAR SHAFIGHIAN The Rise and Fall of Danny Chevron – Sus Music – 2013

A concept album about a decadent wall street banker written as a subtle satire of the financial crisis. It was recorded to tape, mostly in whole takes (a serious lesson to learn for me). The sound is very influenced by Steely Dan, and I think Atar wrote some extraordinary tunes on this record. This music is conceptually, lyrically and (most importantly) harmonically filthy. It was mastered by Bernie Grundman (AJA, Thriller) (!)

JIM KROFT The Hermit and the Hedonist 2011 JIM KROFT The Hermit and the Hedonist – 2011
On the second album the arrangements escalated to epic proportions, as did the late nights involved in writing them! My sister and her quartet came and played beautifully and we got some brass playing friends to imitate a colliery band. We gigged this material quite a lot, and with it Jim’s career took off towards his EMI signing.

JIM KROFT Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea 2010 JIM KROFT Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea – 2010
The first Jim Kroft record. My first time writing an album’s worth of string arrangements. We recorded this in London the week I quit college, and Jim’s time with Myriad Creatures was coming to a close. Soon I would be playing these tunes in Berlin and falling in love with the place

ALL ANGELS Starlight EP Songbird Recordings - 2010 ALL ANGELS Starlight EP – Songbird Recordings – 2010
Classical-Pop crossover group All Angels can REALLY sing. A lovely day in the studio playing various acoustic guitars. This session featured the rather guilty privilege of playing an improvised, faux-classical guitar solo over the changes of Karl Jenkins’ ‘Adiemus’

ROYAL SHOWDOWN Chapter One 2010 ROYAL SHOWDOWN Chapter One – 2010
My first recording with great friend and composer Atar Shafighian, with awesome rhythm players Nick Walsh and Simon Baronti. This band was so much fun to be in…. It’s high energy Jazz-Rock, recorded low-budget. The gigs were great, if only for the joy of watching shoreditch types rock out to Fusion music.

The DIXIE TICKLERS Live in London Dom James Music - 2009 The DIXIE TICKLERS Live in London – Dom James Music – 2009
I got a call one day from a guy called Dom James. “Can you play the banjo?”. My answer: “No”. “WILL you play the banjo?” “Erm, I guess so”. Little did I know we would be playing hundreds of 1920’s gigs in the UK and abroad, totally acoustic with the audience dancing the charleston in various states of inebriation and/or undress. The band are still going stronger than ever- check out their new album ‘Standing Pat’

ANTHONY STRONG Guaranteed! Guaranteed Records - 2009 ANTHONY STRONG Guaranteed! – Guaranteed Records – 2009
I played a very small role on this record- some swinging rhythm guitar on a few tracks. My colleagues and I studied with AJ and he’s rapidly becoming an international jazz superstar.

The DIXIE TICKLERS Parade Dom James Music - 2008 The DIXIE TICKLERS Parade – Dom James Music – 2008

A kid’s album! While busking on the King’s Road in London we discovered that New Orleans jazz is a massive hit with the under-5’s, dancing as their parents stopped to listen. It’s exactly the right fast tempo for them to bounce! Dom came up with the idea of doing all these classic kid’s songs with original Dixie style arrangements, plus as much of the kitchen sink as we could throw in
